Remove it from the tractor to check the bearing (s) for drag or roughness. Some clutches allow for replacement of the bearings, some don't. Repair or replace before running it again. Worse things happen when a bearing completely locks up.

Non working pto could be pressure plate fingers worn off or a bad throwout (actually engagement) brg (parts key #32) or worn pressure plate fingers. You can remove inspection plate on the bottom of clutch housing and look inside. Dec 24, 2015 · Luke v x748. Having cleaned up the oil and tightened the filler cap bolts, there doesn't seem to be any further leaks. I've just run the machine for about 10 mins at temp and full throttle with PTO engaged (no mower) and is dry underneath. The only thing I could see it being is the clutch plates, or output pump. You need to measure the actual resistance of your PTO winding with an ohm meter. A good winding will measure in the range of 3.4 to 4.9 ohms...but a shorted or partially shorted one can be much less and draw excessive currents. Usually this results in either blowing a fuse or tripping the circuit breaker.Another cause would be excessive heat from the engine, muffler, overload, or bad bearing. The Deere part number for the coil is AM38624 if it is indeed as described above. Maybe I can track down the Ogura number too.
